Andexxa Blood Clot Lawsuits: Pulmonary Embolism (PE) and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Cases

Andexxa Lawsuits Filed Against Pharmaceutical Companies, Not Doctors Who Ordered Andexxa

Posted by Tom Lamb at Drug Injury Watch)

We have been investigating possible Andexxa blood clot lawsuits for the past two years. Pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) cases requiring hospitalization or resulting in death are the types of Andexxa lawsuits that would be filed on behalf of people who have suffered those Andexxa side effects, PE and DVT.

Before being recalled from the US market in December 2025, Andexxa (andexanet) was a specialized treatment given when patients on Eliquis (apixaban) or Xarelto (rivaroxaban) needed urgent reversal of anticoagulation. Specifically, Andexxa was intended to help with life-threatening or uncontrolled bleeding.

However, there were reports of patients given Andexxa as an anticoagulant reversal drug who developed a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and /or a pulmonary embolism (PE) soon afterwards. The significant number of Andexxa side-effect reports led the FDA to investigate whether Andexxa was associated with an increased rate of blood clots, including DVT and/or PE, as well as clotting-related deaths, compared with other methods of reversing anticoagulation.

As background, here are our earlier Drug Injury Watch posts relevant to Andexxa blood clot lawsuits:

We continue to investigate possible Andexxa blood clot lawsuits involving a pulmonary embolism (PE) or deep vein thrombosis (DVT) after a person was given Andexxa to reverse anticoagulation. These Andexxa lawsuits would be filed against the responsible pharmaceutical companies.

Importantly, the doctors who ordered Andexxa for a person needing urgent reversal of anticoagulation would not be named as Defendants in these Andexxa blood clot lawsuits. This is because there were no warnings about an increased risk of Andexxa-related blood clots, which can lead to DVT and/or PE, in the drug label for Andexxa.
