(1) Diabetes Medicines in the Sodium-Glucose Co-Transporter-2 (SGLT2) Inhibitors Class of Drugs

Invokana (canagliflozin) — Janssen Pharmaceuticals
Invokamet (canagliflozin and metformin) — Janssen Pharmaceuticals
Farxiga (dapagliflozin) — AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals
Xigduo XR (dapagliflozin and metformin extended-release) — AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals
Jardiance (empagliflozin) — Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals
Glyxambi (empagliflozin and linagliptin) — Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals
Synjardy (empagliflozin and metformin hydrochloride) — Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly and Company

These drug injury lawsuits primarily involve the following side effects:

  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Ketoacidosis
  • Ketosis
  • Acute Kidney Injury
  • Kidney Failure / Renal Failure
  • Kidney Damage
  • Pyelonephritis (kidney infection)
  • Urosepsis (blood infection)
  • Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

(2) Erectile Dysfunction (ED) Pills, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) Medicines, and Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) Medications in the Phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE-5) Inhibitors Class of Drugs

Adcirca (tadalafil) — Eli Lilly and Company
Cialis (tadalafil) — Eli Lilly and Company
Levitra (vardenafil hydrochloride) — GlaxoSmithKline
Revatio (sildenafil citrate) — Pfizer
Staxyn (vardenafil hydrochloride) — GlaxoSmithKline
Stendra (avanafil) — Vivus and Auxilium Pharmaceuticals
Viagra (sildenafil citrate) — Pfizer

These various prescription drug products have been linked to malignant melanoma skin cancer (but not basal or squamous cell skin cancers).

(3) Heartburn Medicines and Acid Reflux Pills like Prevacid, Prilosec, and Nexium in the Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) Class of Drugs

Nexium (esomeprazole magnesium) [prescription drug] == AstraZeneca LP
Nexium 24HR (esomeprazole magnesium) [over-the-counter] — Pfizer Consumer Healthcare
Prilosec (omeprazole) [prescription drug] — AstraZeneca LP
Prilosec OTC (omeprazole) [over-the-counter] — Procter & Gamble Manufacturing Co.
Prevacid (lansoprazole) [prescription drug] — Takeda Pharmaceuticals America, Inc.
Prevacid 24 HR (lansoprazole) [over-the-counter] — Novartis Consumer Health, Inc.

The use of these proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for as little as a couple of weeks can result in an increased risk of developing:

  • Acute Interstitial Nephritis (AIN)
  • Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
  • End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)
  • Severe Renal Impairment
  • Kidney / Renal Failure
  • Acute Kidney Injury

    Lost 20 percent of pancreas was on metforman
    It’s. even a few years I’m on an insulin pump the rest of my life.

    My father developed type 2 diabetes after back surgery in his latest 70s.
    Was put on metformin and passed away at 84 from lymphoma. I am now wondering if the metformin played a role in his taking this. Came on so suddenly. Was diagnosed with lymphoma and only lived around 6 weeks. Was not having any other physical issues before that.
    This is so overwhelming to hear about.

    I was on metformin for several years and in Nov. of 2015 I had to have aprox. 12″-16″ of intestine removed, intestine had attached itself to my bladder and was actually putting fecal matter and gas into it. Suspect metformin may have been a big factor. Was quite a painful ordeal. Would like to collect.

    Well. Again in inquiring on metforman. In currently now taking this drug for diabetes.and I’m having severe problems with my stomach I’ve had a clonaskapy done but I’m have internal bleeding with bowel movements also I’ve been prescribed other drugs such as nexium beta prilosac januvia and have took those for long periods at a time with the same family doctor in with now but now in no longer taking these drugs. Only metforman and glyberide I was just wanting input on what I should do???

    Well. Again in inquiring on metforman.     Four years ago my mom was told she had to stop taken metformin because it caused damage to her kidneys. Couple of months ago my mom was admitted in the hospital with pnenomuna developed and developed blood infection. She is now on dialysis and have become very depress. I feel if she had never been on metformin her kidneys would never failed her. My mom is only 71 years old she now appears as if she is 85.

    Was taking Metformin in 2015, went in Hospital diagnosed with ketoacidosis almost died. In hospital for 4 days, can anyone help with a lawsuit. Have been on insulin they gave me at Hospital and told to never use Metformin again.

    Hello Tom . My name is David and I experienced some adversity taken the Metaformin SGLT2. I have been hospitalized 2 times requiring surgery on the 2nd visit in 2017. Please let me know if this is a case you would take on. Thanks in advance.

    My father passed away 8 ys ago went in with gangrene of the gall bladder. He was on diabetes meds for over 20 yrs. Could his death been because of the meds causing gangrene.

    I started taking metformin about nine months ago. I started burping and passing gas at nights and then it felt as if the food was sitting in my throat. My stomach looked as if I was six months pregnant. I went to see my gastroenterologist and he prescribed pantoprazole my primary care physician also prescribed zantac at one point I was taking both in order to get to sleep. My gastroenterologist decided to have some test done on me when he realized that the medication was not working. I had an endoscopy done the results showed nothing wrong. He ordered a nuclear study and the results were the same. He ordered an ultrasound of the abdomen and found a cysts on my kidney and one on my spleen but, everything else was fine. He then said to me you are on metformin and I said yes. He said that 6⁵the symptoms are the results from taking the medication. He said”stop taking the metformin” I went back to see him a month later and I was a new person.
